UNI UNI UNI!

So, my family and I have figured out that my grandparents are more excited about me going to university than I am. Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely looking forward to going somewhere new, being independent and studying something I love. If you know me, then you'll understand exactly how much I am in love with the idea of going to Plymouth, especially to study Psychology. Since I was about six, I've been the geekiest, most obsessed person over crime dramas and CSI work etc. so this course just opens up so many chances for behavioural analysis, therapy, court case analysis etc. which would be a dream!

As part of being overly enthusiastic about me living on my own and all that jazz, Granny & Granddad took me to Ikea, initially just because I like running around like a small child and acting like I live there a la (500) Days Of Summer (which, by the way, is one of my favourite films starring three of my favourite actors: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Matthew Gray Gubler & Zooey Deschanel) but when we went to the market floor, they suddenly started asking 'do you need this?' and I couldn't exactly say that I didn't, because I did, or that I didn't quite yet because they were so willing to buy me things now and Lord knows I need organisation in my life (like some sort of compulsion) so I let them.

It didn't stop quite there though, when we got back to their house, my Granddad was automatically on the computer ordering things which they hadn't bought at Ikea. I didn't know this until he walked into the kitchen for dinner & just said 'I've ordered you the rest, it'll be here on Tuesday'. So, that's me sorted for now. There's still some things I need to get and of course the financial side of things isn't guaranteed until I actually get a place on the course.

Here's what they bought:

So Granny Jean knows how much I love my Cath Kidston duvet cover and she knew how upset I was that my parents aren't letting me take it with me, so she found this duvet cover which is pretty similar and it's so cute.

Here we have a set of free CK tea towels I got a while ago when my mumma bought some coffee cups in the sale, two sets of bowls & plates Granny bought (so I can have my own little version of Come Dine With Me) and lastly there are these glasses which have little birds on them. At one point I knew which birds they were, but basically, I've loved these glasses since I was very small and my grandparents used to pick me up from school, so they gave them to me! Oh, and there's a rolling pin which they bought me many years ago...

The mysterious utensil order from Granddad Mike.

Pretty self-explanatory, these are some saucepans from Ikea. Cheap & they'll do the trick nicely.

The story behind the contents of this photo kinda link with the rolling pin... I was 12, it was Christmas and I was a keen cook/baker but my grandparents weren't allowed to give me knives and a rolling pin for Christmas because I was apparently too young and all could result in a trip to A&E. The cutlery set has another story. When my dad was younger, they took a lot of caravan trips with this sturdy little set. I used to sit in the caravan (which is now trapped down the side of the house in a lot of brambles) and have little tea parties with these, so I got given them to keep.

And there's your lot for today! I'm so nervous about university but so relieved at the same time. I've finished secondary school which just so happened to be the best and the worst time of my life. I've made so many ridiculous mistakes but now I can start all over again without the stress of trying to worry too much about other people. Not that I won't be concerned about others, I mean just that I'm starting off as a stranger to everyone else again. So it's time for me to make another first impression & feel like I've got everything under control. Such a cheesy little paragraph this has turned into but I mean every word!

I know we, the Kelly household, are a little ahead of ourselves. I haven't got my results yet, not until August. I have this horrific feeling that for most of the exams I knew the information but I couldn't remember as much as I would have hoped - which is unfair considering exams shouldn't be a test of memory, yet nor should they be a recall of all the information we've written down the lesson before. So who knows, if I haven't done well and I don't get in, then I'm just insanely organised for when the time comes and I can go to university. I'll be absolutely gutted and probably crying my eyes out, but when that day comes around, I'll know there are foundation courses and all sorts of other options that I can fall back on (fingers crossed).

One last thing: if anyone's also going to university this year & something springs to mind, then comment! Anything at all, really. I have so many different thoughts in my head right now and it'll be good to know if anyone thinks the same sort of thing.

05-07-13 Year 13 Prom

So yesterday I was both excited and nervous at the same time and it was a really awkward, exhilarating feeling... I spent most of the day (up to about 3pm) dancing round the top landing in my pyjamas to Arctic Monkeys songs!

At half 4, I had my hair and make up done by my beautiful little sister & our family friend Beverly.

We went round Mel's for the taxi, where I got to see these wonderful human beans:

(I apologise now, we do have a photo of all of us - minus Brett on the end - waiting for the taxi, but it's currently on Mel's sister's camera.)

We went to Lackham! Ate hog roast, enjoyed the chocolate fountain (despite the limited use of it) & drank a bit. Funny thing though, Shana and I were on the girly drinks like malibu & coke but Mel just went straight for the pints of cider like the resilient person she is.

There were so many rooms! I swear every single time I went into the house we found a new room with people in it. There was also a gorgeous fountain that we took quite a few pictures by.

This was the back of Lackham House from the end of the gardens. You can't quite see the fountain in this one but you can see the spooky blue alien glow from the disco lights...

And this is the fountain (with different people stood by it of course):

Another cute thing about this prom was that, because my mum's a teacher, she got invited. So we had to get a photo together!

I apologise that this is a really really short post word-wise. I don't think I can actually describe how wonderful last night was. It was just the sweetest goodbye to a lot of people who I'll really miss when I go to university.
